South Tyneside Sexual Health provides an integrated service that aims to support you and your sexual health. 

Our clinics provide a full range of contraceptive services as well as testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. Access to all our services is completely FREE. We do not charge for STI Screening, contraception or medication if you require treatments. 

Some infections can be diagnosed quickly and easily here at South Tyneside Sexual Health clinic and treatment for any infection is available free of charge. 

Treatment and tracing of partners who may also have an STI is carried out by one of our trained Sexual Health Advisers.

Some of our services can be accessed online such as requesting a FREE Home STI Testing Kit  or registering for the Free Condom Scheme. Any requests made online will be delivered to your home or an appropriate address of your choice. Please note we offer these services FREE and do not charge for home testing kits or condoms packs. 

When ordering your FREE Home STI Testing or Condom packs from the above links, please register and create your account and we will then send out your kits.

Our sexual health team includes a range of qualified health practitioners and fully trained staff made up of, Doctors, Nurses, Sexual Health Advisers, Healthcare Assistants and Clinic Administrators. We have a dedicated team of male & female consultants, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Administrators. Our Sexual Health Consultants can advise on any specialist sexual health conditions, treatment and care. As a training organisation we often support developing the wider workforce and can sometimes have student doctors and nurses working in our clinics. You may be asked if you are happy to have a student involved in your consultation, however you do not have to accept.

If you have symptoms, you need emergency contraception or you need to speak to a nurse the telephone triage line is open from 08:45-12:15, Monday through to Friday however, if we reach capacity before this time, you may be asked to ring back the next day.

Our telephone line for contraception, cervical smears or any other queries is open Monday through to Thursday 08:45-19:00 and Friday 08:45-16:00.

Please note Monday through to Friday we close for lunch from 12:30 to 13:00 and are closed all bank holidays and the first Wednesday morning of every month for staff training.

Our Policy on Confidentiality and Privacy

Services provided by us here a South Tyneside Sexual Health are confidential regardless of your age even if you are under 16 years old. We will only share the information you give us if we think you or someone else is at risk of harm.

If we do, we will discuss this with you first.

Please note you are welcome to be seen with your partner or friend, but we would prefer to see you alone for the first few minutes of your consultation – we need to ask some sensitive questions that you may not wish to answer if you have someone else with you who. We will explain those questions and then you can decide if you would like your friend/partner with you for rest of the consultation and examination.

You will be offered the opportunity to have a chaperone present during your consultation/examination. The chaperone will be a member of our staff.

We are legally required to share statistical information with The Department of Health. This does not include personal details but does include information about infections, treatments and types of contraception used.
