Sexual Health Supporting Boldon School Pride 2022
South Tyneside Pride was held at Boldon School on Friday 1st July with 60 students and 40 members of staff coming together to support LGBTQ+ communities and in support of Pride 2022.
Secondary schools from across the borough were invited to the event which aimed to help improve approaches to LGBTQ+ students in South Tyneside schools.
Young people attended workshops delivered by South Tyneside Sexual Health, Northumbria Police, Matrix Young People’s Drugs and Alcohol Service , Mental Health, School Nursing & South Tyneside Public Health leads. South Tyneside Sexual Health delivered training to teaching staff from all secondary schools to promote service provision, access and referral pathways to support school leads across region.
Throughout June & July local events such as Pride are a valuable opportunity to showcase our commitment to support and improve the health of LGBT people and the wider community and to also look at how far gay rights have come, particularly in the delivery of LGBT inclusive services.
Sexual health services would like to thank Boldon School and South Tyneside Council for hosting the fantastic inclusive School Pride event 2022.
South Tyneside School Pride event is a fantastic multi agency partnership with all local services coming together to support students and teaching staff and also a great introduction to Northern Pride 2022.
The very first pride festival was held in July 2008 and attended by over 2,500 people. The three-day festival now includes a parade through Newcastle city with entertainment, various LGBTQ+ safe zones, information stalls, and market stalls across the Town Moor in Newcastle plus an array of satellite events on the build-up to the festival which now attracts over 40,000 people.
The Pride parade will take place from 12 noon, Saturday 23rd July.
The theme this year is Remember, Resist, Rise Up and the mission for UK Pride 2022 marking 50 years since the first Pride march took place in the UK.
